Ecoglo Safety Upgrade at the Halton Arena "Worth Every Penny!"

In the fall of 2010, UNC installed Ecoglo F4 Series Photoluminescent Step Edge Stair Nosings on all arena steps in order to enhance facility safety during public events. Halton Arena Director Nina Simmons, after six month’s experience with Ecoglo in her facility said, "It's a great product and we're very happy with it. There were no falls by elderly visitors at our December (2010) commencement. It was worth every penny!".

The Dale F Halton Arena opened December 2, 1996 and is an indoor sports venue located inside the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center on the Charlotte, North Carolina campus of UNC. With seating capacity of 9,105, the Halton Arena is home to the Charlotte 49ers men’s and women's basketball and volleyball teams. Ecoglo Photoluminescent Life Safety Products are the brand of choice for numerous arena, stadium and theatre operators across the country.

Ecoglo provides superior step–edge visibility when the lights are on so that facility patrons are fully aware of steps and can see steps clearly because of the contrasting colors of the non-slip material and the photoluminescent pigment. Inattention by patrons to steps is a leading cause of tripping and falling and potential injuries because they just do not see the steps.

When the lights are dimmed for an event or if there is a blackout from a power failure, Ecoglo’s high-performance custom-formulated photoluminescent strips leap into action instantly and will glow clearly and brightly and will stay visible for over 10 hours in total darkness, if required, which ensures that all patrons will be able to find their way out easily and quickly.

Halton Arena is now benefitting from Ecoglo’s Life Safety features because it is truly "worth every penny" when facility patrons of all ages can safety navigate stairs in confidence. Learn more about Ecoglo's arena stair lighting and stadium stair lighting!

Step Edge Contrast Strips

UL 924 Exit Signs & Markers

Step Edge Contrast Strips In a patented process, custom-blended photoluminescence and non-slip silicon carbide material, in standard and custom colors, are heat-fused to high-grade aluminum strips. The result is a contrast strip that provides high contrast and superior visibility and durability when applied to concrete, steel, aluminum or wood steps. Exit Signs For the safe way-finding out of public facilities, the emergency egress signs, UL924 photoluminescent exit signs, aisle markers and seat markers incorporate photoluminescent pigments that are bonded to aluminum sheet stock. Designed to be walked on, the signs have a durable anti-graffiti coating to provide continuous, trouble-free performance to last the life of the facility. View our photoluminescent exit sign page.

Stair Nosings

Guidance & Handrail Strips

Stair Nosings The modular design of the stair nosing profiles enable the easy insertion of contrast, non-slip strips or photoluminescent strips in 38.1 mm (1.5 in) and 50.8 mm (2 in) widths. Flat stair nosings are for flat step surfaces, carpet stair nosings are for low and high pile step installations and cast-in-place step inserts are for newly poured concrete steel pan steps. Guidance and Handrail Strips Photoluminescent pigments are bonded to aluminum strips to create guidance and handrail products for radius or flat application on stairway landings, handrails, door frames, hallway baseboards or physical obstructions to provide a continuous long-lasting luminous light that is vital to the safe and efficient egress of people from public facilities.
